The Rocky Patel Sun Grown Series is one of my personal favorites when we talk about
Honduran Cigars. This Cigar is noted as a medium/full bodied piece of perfection. Rocky Patel has taken his time to develop flavors and subtle hints by slowly aging a sweet tasting 5 year Ecuadorian Sun Grown Sumatra which is used as the wrapper. This series is definitely one of the best bangs for the buck!

First Impression:
Although these cigars are ready to go right out of the box, I love to take a few weeks in the humidor. I’ve noticed that this process produces a smoother feel, places the cigar at
the right humidity and allows for the cigar to have every opportunity to shine. I noticed the cello is slightly yellowish, the feel is firm with some give and the aroma is sweet, smooth and soft.
Pre-Smoke Ritual:
Since this cigar is a larger gauge, I allow the cigar to rest just for a few minutes out of the cello and out of the humidor. I inspected the cigar and noted the oiliness as well as the “chew” between my teeth. I take a cold draw so I have flavors to compare to prior to
lighting.
Lighting, Draw, and Burn:
Depending on my mood will depend on whether I’ll use a soft flame or a torch. On this review I used a standard torch and used a light toasting to the foot. With a long draw, I lit the cigar and allowed to smoke to fill my nose with the sweet aroma.
Flavor:
The Rocky Patel Sun Grown provides a smooth, medium bodied taste with a subtle hint
of pepper and a sweet finish. As I smoke the cigar, the flavors intensify to reveal hints of coffee and dark chocolate. A most enjoyable smoke!
My Preference:
Rest: 2 weeks
Cutter: Large Gauge Guillotine
Lighter: Torch Lighter
Final Thoughts:
This cigar has been a reliable piece to my arsenal for years. The ever-evolving flavors even change depending on the size. You want a great everyday stick? This is it!
